What Our Members Are Saying
Triggering a Canadian Investment Supercycle
“If policymakers in Canada play their cards right, the country may be on verge of a multi-year investment supercycle not unlike what was enjoyed in the early 2000s… A bold policy response will be a key part of the equation. Nibbling around the edges of past policies is unlikely to do the trick. The over-riding goal should be to create a natural private investment ecosystem over time that will reduce the need for public subsidies.”
— Beata Caranci, Senior Vice President & Chief Economist, TD Bank and
Derek Burleton, Deputy Chief Economist, TD Bank
New U.S. tariffs and trade tensions are ‘manageable,’ says Scotiabank CEO
“We should use this as a country, use this moment to accelerate further the prime minister’s agenda, removing interprovincial trade barriers, reducing the timing of approvals, getting big things done and continuing to diversify trade, while also continuing the great trade relationship we have with the U.S.”
— Scott Thomson, Chief Executive Officer, Scotiabank
and a member of the Business Council of Toronto

Member Spotlight
Even executive teams with the best possible intentions sometimes find themselves struggling with internal culture. Ignite Management has seen this countless times, and knows it rarely comes down to a bad strategy or a bad team. More often it's a leadership team that's tightened control instead of building trust without realizing what they’re doing.
Ali Grovue, the firm's President and Mike Watson, founder and Executive Chair, work with teams through exactly that shift, and have a clear perspective on what it takes to get it right.
Here are three takeaways from Grovue and Watson:
1. Why do strategies fail to get executed, even when the plan itself is sound?
Watson: “Far too often, strategic execution falters because leaders are not creating enterprise-wide ownership of what needs to take place. In these instances, strategies become documents that sit on a shelf. Strategies cannot be fully executed until leaders convert them into living, breathing roadmaps that guide actions throughout the company.”
2. How is the generational shift in the workforce showing up inside executive teams?
Grovue: “Return-to-office is the fight everyone can see. But it's rarely about the office. Underneath it are harder questions, like how much autonomy people get, whether they're trusted, and how their work is actually measured. Settle the surface argument and you've settled nothing.”
3. What would you tell a leadership team that just started this work and wants to know when they'll be done?
Watson: “Leaders want a quick fix. What this actually takes is consistent attention over time. Trust is like a muscle; it grows if you keep working it. In the end, no plan holds an organization together. The senior team does. That's the work, and it never stops.”

The Talk Track
“AI gives entrepreneurs back their most valuable asset: time. By automating routine work, it allows business owners to narrow their focus, sharpen their sales strategy, and spend more energy on the relationships and opportunities that drive growth.”
— Chris McMartin, Business Banking National Lead at The Scotiabank Women Initiative at B2B Sales and AI: Lessons in Autopilot for Busy Leaders
“Cities that thrive are not necessarily the ones with the best geography or the lowest costs. They’re the ones where business, government, and civic institutions move together. They move with speed, with clarity, and with trust. Cities that thrive focus on driving productivity, something that’s good for all of us.”
— Sasha Krstic, Chair, Toronto Region Board of Trade at our 2026 Annual Lunch
